Wildlife on our Farm

“It was fantastic to see wildlife thriving as we walked around the farm!”*

Here at Morris of Hoggeston we are proud to farm in harmony with nature and we really enjoy seeing the wide variety of wildlife that shares our farm with us.

We are a LEAF (Linking the Environment And Farming) accredited farm, which means 10% of our land is set aside for the environment.  We have margins around the edge of many of our fields, growing wild bird seed plants and legume mixes full of plants that the birds, butterflies and bees love!  Our grass leys are legume mixes, so not only our livestock benefit from the herb –rich leys, but also the wildlife too.

We have planted over a kilometre of species rich hedgerows over the last 10 years and are delighted with the benefits these have brought to our farm.  In particular we have seen increases in numbers of skylarks, yellowhammers, red kites, goldfinches, butterflies and bees, along with many other smaller birds.

Its not just the fields where wildlife is thriving at Manor Farm.  We have also seen an increase in the numbers of swallows returning to nest in the old brick barns and stables around the farm yard itself, rearing two broods of chicks before returning to Southern Africa.
